THE Rockin' Horse Story

The Early Years

Rockin' Horse Stables was founded in 1993 with the purchase of an 87 acre farm in Greene County Pa.. Adam & Kim Giannamore along with their, then two Daughters, Aszia and Ainjel, Put up stables for their two horses. A short time later stalls were built to accommodate boarders. Kim began instructing student riders soon after things were up and running, passing on the skills she had learned growing up on a Pennsylvania horse farm, caring for horses and riding competitively. Over a few years things flourished to what we realized was full potential in the Green County area for a boarding facility and we decided to move to the quickly growing Suburbs North of Pittsburgh.

Shortly after our third daughter Alexziz was born we sold the beautiful Greene Co. Property to a wonderful family and moved to a 19 acre property in Economy Borough. Although the farm was a rocky hill top and quite prohibitive in size it had one appealing feature. We could afford it!  After a few years we began to see our mistake in thinking the property was adequate for a facility our size.

With Continued Growth and Success ....Why Move?

That was the question we were frequently asked. Well we knew that we owned what was then and what we believe still is by acreage, the smallest boarding/riding school in the area. We knew better than to sink more money into "the Rock". (the nickname our family affectionately referred to the property as due to the land being made up of mostly shale rocky hillsides.) Steep hills and drop-offs just cant be remedied. Unsafe bare paddocks with horses standing by the gate waiting to get out just was not in our plans. We would have to resort to something as crazy as turning out horses in the Indoor or outdoor riding rings. Of course any experienced Barn Manager (a job we would never trust to a person with a lack of experience maintaining horses and horse facilities) would know better than to do something so FOOLISH. I suppose SAND COLIC never entered the equation. Horses being put in jeopardy of the most deadly form of colic. The number one cause is feeding a horse (including hay) on a sand surface such as a riding ring! Horses can carry 30-80 pounds of sand in their intestines before any signs of colic surface. Unfortunately by then it is often too late. Follow this link for more info on sand colic.  http://www.ultimatehorsesite.com/info/colic.html  and while you are researching look into what the minimum size of a paddock used for a small group of horses should be, and look into the percentage of serious injuries that result from inadequate  paddocks, and horses in herds fighting for food in a tiny paddock (such as a riding ring).

Having to build a stable on a hillside is not an easy task and we could only manage an outdoor arena that was barely 90' across (irregardless of what false advertising by the new management states). Fortunately we always learn from our mistakes and more fortunately in America you can apparently sell your mistake for way more than you think  its worth.  (where was the ultra brilliant barn manager when that happened???)   After over two long, long years on the market we reeled them in and closed the deal that meant we could finally move on and find a property that would allow us the expansion room we desired. Working with a skilled realtor we located a property in record time.  We found our new property 3 miles from the heart of Cranberry Township, one of the US's fastest growing communities. We put up all new BIGGER & BETTER facilities and moved on with business as usual. Larger indoor and outdoor arenas (90' wide just did not cut it) ) and multiple large grass paddocks are a few of the upgrades the new property made possible. Our present facilities are just scratching the surface of the useable land we intend to expand on at our new home. We hear that some wannabe with virtually no experience is making the comment "can you keep up?" LOL!  We're not in Kansas anymore Toto.

Now settled in at the new stable things are running smoothly,  Rockin' Horse Stables is a completely self sufficient Stable and Riding School.  We promote a structured, family friendly environment, encouraging our riders to have fun while learning and we always strive to make improvements for our Family, Friends, Boarders and students. Stay tuned for exciting things to come.
